Peaky Blinders boss confirmed to write new James Bond that aims to be "better, stronger and bolder"

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has signed on to write the next James Bond movie.

The award-winning screenwriter, whose more recent TV credits include A Thousand Blows and SAS: Rogue Heroes confirmed his involvement in the new spy film, promising a "better, stronger and bolder" Bond storyline for fans.

"It has always been on my bucket list and it's fantastic to be invited to do it - I can't wait to get started," he said during an appearance on the BBC Five Live Breakfast show.

"I'm hoping that, being a Bond fan for so many years, it will be imbued into me and I will be able to produce something that's the same but different, better, stronger and bolder," he added.

The next James Bond movie, which is currently untitled, is in active development, with filmmaker Denis Villeneuve - best known for Dune and Blade Runner 2049 - being confirmed as the director last month.

The identify of the new James Bond actor is still yet to be unveiled, despite growing rumours and speculation. With various moves happening in the creative departments, it seems work is being done here before any official casting.

The upcoming movie marks a new chapter for the Bond franchise, with long-time producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson stepping down and handing full creative control over to Amazon MGM Studios in February, in what was a shock move.

Amazon has held the rights to distribute James Bond movies since 2022 when the company acquired MGM, but while stepping back, Wilson and Broccoli will remain co-owners of the franchise.

Daniel Craig was the last actor to portray the iconic spy, stepping down from the role in 2021 after No Time to Die, having starred in five Bond films. Regarding his replacement, the Knives Out star admitted he "doesn't care" who took over the role.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson was one name rumoured to be the next Bond, and last year he awkwardly avoided a question about the speculation during a red carpet interview.

However, the Taylor-Johnson reports were later debunked by a production insider claiming there was "no truth in the rumours".
